Faculty! We encourage you to include a statement on your syllabus that explains the services offered by the University Writing Center. Please feel free to copy and paste the relevant paragraph below into your syllabus and to adapt the statement to your individual context as you see fit.
Undergraduate Courses (in-person)
I encourage you to schedule an appointment with the University Writing Center (UWC) this semester to get feedback on the writing your writing for this course. Located on the 2nd floor of Moody Library (West wing), the UWC offers free assistance at any stage of the writing process (brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, revising, editing, etc.). During your session, the consultant will provide targeted feedback on your writing, focusing first on "higher-order concerns," such as ideas, content, thesis, evidence, and organization, before grammar or style. The UWC consultants aim to equip you with a toolbox of strategies to improve your writing, research, editing, and proofreading skills. If you are a multilingual student, the UWC consultants will work with you to meet your specific needs, including helping to improve your grammar, vocabulary, style, and organization. The UWC offers three types of appointments: in-person, video conference, and written feedback (returned within 48 hours). I recommend scheduling an in-person or video conference consultation for a more interactive and collaborative experience. Please bring the assignment prompt, your draft, and any other relevant materials to your appointment. Include my name as your professor when you schedule, and a report will automatically be sent to me after your session. You can set up an appointment online at www.baylor.edu/uwc.
