Syllabus Statements
Faculty! We encourage you to include a statement on your syllabus that explains the services offered by the University Writing Center. Please feel free to copy and paste the relevant paragraph below into your syllabus and to adapt it to your course as you see fit.
Undergraduate Courses (in-person)
I encourage you to schedule an appointment with the University Writing Center (UWC) this semester to get feedback on the writing you complete for this course. Located in Moody Library 2nd floor West, the UWC offers free assistance to you at any stage of the writing process (brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, revising, editing, etc.). During the session, the consultant will offer you relevant, targeted feedback on your writing. The consultant will focus on "higher-order concerns," such as ideas, content, thesis, evidence, and organization, before grammar or style. The UWC consultants will not write your paper for you, but they will equip you with a toolbox of strategies to improve your writing, research, editing, and proofreading skills. If you are a multilingual student, the UWC consultants will work with you to meet your specific needs, including helping to improve your grammar, vocabulary, style, and organization. The UWC offers three types of appointments: in-person, real-time online, and eTutoring (feedback within 48 hours). I encourage you to schedule an in-person or real-time online consultation so that you can collaborate more with the writing consultant and get the most out of the session (I know it can be intimidating, but it will be worth it!). Please bring the assignment prompt, your paper/text, and other materials you might need with you to your appointment. Please include my name as the professor, and a report will automatically be sent to me after your session. You can set up an appointment online at www.baylor.edu/uwc.
